With 96-patient beds at Oktibbeha County Hospital, it might seem that the county-owned and operated hospital would provide little more than emergency care. However, at this primary care facility, nothing could be further from the truth. Each year, thousands of patients from a seven-county area rely on OCH for their health care needs. Because of its local ownership, OCH invests its resources back into its facilities, its medical technology and equipment, and its communities in order to impact virtually every facet of life for the region's residents.
With more than 500 employees, this progressive, rural hospital provides capable, compassionate care for its inpatients - as well as for its almost 20,000 annual emergency room visitors and its more than 18,000 outpatients. It has six ICU beds and one of the lowest nosocomial (hospital acquired infection) rates in the country. OCH provides state-of-the-art services through its almost 100 staff physicians, most of whom are board-certified and some of whom are even fellowship-trained.
Expectant parents receive extra special attention at OCH. The hospital has five beautifully decorated birthing suites, which are decorated and furnished like home, to help make the labor and delivery process more relaxing. Through its "Special Beginnings" program, OCH provides soon-to-be parents with helpful programs and services, like childbirth classes, sibling education classes, breast-feeding classes; a "Cradle Call" infant information phone line; community lactation clinic; Special Beginnings Gift Shop, with items like breast pumps, nursing bras, and preemie clothing. Each Spring, OCH also hosts the Special Beginnings Maternity and Infant Fair, a one-stop shop for those who are pregnant or who have new babies. During the Fair, tours of the hospital's labor and delivery facilities are conducted; community resource groups provide information, products, and demonstrations; and carseat inspections/installations are performed. |
