Planning the Perfect
Party for Your Child

It’s party time. Whether it’s a ropin’ cowboy party or a princess garden tea party the most important thing to remember is that a party is all about details and FUN!

A child’s birthday is one of the most important days in their lives so it is definitely an excuse to pull out all the stops. The first step to any event is to pick a theme. Let’s say we pick a “flower garden” theme.

The second step would be to pick an activity or activities that incorporate the theme. At a “flower garden” the birthday boy/girl and guest can pot their own flowers, craft paint is great for decorating their own flower pots (request that a paint shirt be brought on the invitation) and if dirt is a no go then you can do silk flowers with rocks as the dirt.

After the activity of course it is time for food. Chips, fresh fruit, mini p&j sandwiches and other goodies can be served right out of a lined flower pots. For added fun add some gummy worms coming out of the pots. Cup cakes can be decorated with bright flowers and served on cut out plates of flowers, bees and ladybugs.

The most important thing to remember is that this is an exciting milestone for you and your child. This is your child’s big day and should be planned with their age and their interest in mind so have fun!

Party Favor Ideas

You’ve got the birthday party planned to a T.  You’ve spent exactly the allotted budget for your child’s birthday party.  Oh no, you’ve forgotten to get party favors for the oodles of children you’re about to entertain.  Do not stress! Here are inexpensive ideas to your dilemma.

Girls Party Favors

  • Have them dress up like a movie star and take a Polaroid picture of each child for their party favor.
  • Have them paint and decorate flip-flops.  You can buy these kits at party stores, or just use strong glue with sparkly decorations or big plastic flowers.
  • Crowns, tiaras, and play makeup are always a hit.

Boys Party Favors

  • Key chains or flashlights are good because the boys can hook them onto their backpacks.
  • Hot Wheelsâ cars
  • Dinosaurs and army men
  • Water guns (little cheap ones, not the mega water guns!)
  • Chocolate pirate coins or pirate eye patch

Boy or Girl Party Favor

  • Candy
  • Buckets or pails to paint
  • Anything that glows in the dark
  • Silly string
  • Yo-yo’s
  • Piñata’s
  • Individual cupcakes/cookies the children can decorate
